Comedian Samay Raina and The Habitat comedy club owner Balraj Singh Ghai visited the iconic Lalbaugcha Raja to pray at the hands of Ganpati Bappa, with Rahool Kanal, Yuva General Secretary of Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.

The group’s outing soon became the subject of social media attention, with numerous users having strong reactions to the combination.

The social media responses draw on previous controversies over The Habitat and political differences. An earlier incident in the year saw comedian Kunal Kamra take the stage at The Habitat and cuttingly refer to a political leader as a “gaddar”.

The remark is said to have annoyed Shiv Sena members of the Shinde faction. Rahool Kanal, among others, is reported to have been part of a group that defaced the venue.

Even though there were public and political demands, Kunal Kamra did not apologize for the comment, continuing the controversy.

Samay Raina too has had his share of controversies. On 10 February 2025, in the sixth bonus episode of one of the most popular shows, podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly called BeerBiceps, joined as a guest judge along with YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, and Raina himself.

On the show, Allahbadia asked a contestant a question that quickly went viral online and sparked outrage. The question was whether the contestant would prefer to watch their parents have sex every day for the rest of their lives or take part once in order to end it for good.

The comment provoked fierce backlash on all social media. It was called offensive and inappropriate by many, leading to lawsuits.

A complaint was lodged with the police against Allahbadia for “encouraging obscenity” and using abusive language. The complaint was escalated to both the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the National Commission for Women.

This led to an official investigation and FIR registration. And, Samay Raina and Apoorva Mukhija were listed as named individuals along with Allahbadia.
